Terhathum, June 17: NC president and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that peace and security are a must for development.
At a public rally organized by NC Terhathum district committee here today, Prime Minister Koirala said politics should be meant for strengthening democracy and development should have people at the centre.
Mr Koirala also stressed the need to initiate development works down from the village level so as to strengthen the local bodies and ultimately stabilize democracy.
On the occasion, NC president Koirala distributed party membership to 1,801 persons including ex-assistant minister Tulsi Subba who joined the Nepali Congress.
Home Minister Govinda Raj Joshi said the government is committed to maintaining law and order in the country.
National Assembly vice chairman Chiranjibi Rijal called for concerted efforts for the country’s development.
Ex-assistant minister Tulsi Subba, ex-MP Tejman Tumbahamfe, ex-minister of state Bishnu Kumar Tumbahamfe, Nepal Women’s Association central member Chet Kumari Dahal and NC workers Ganesh Tumbahamfe spoke about the role of Nepali Congress in the country’s development.
NC district president Lekh Dhoj Tumbahanfe presided.
Earlier, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala inaugurated the district water supply office building built at a cost of Rs 2,521,000 at a function here today.
On the occasion, Mr Koirala said that if the potable water scheme could be conducted through the users in a planned manner, it could be supplied in line with the set target.
Stating that the government had hiked the salary of the civil servants so that they could extend cooperation honestly in the development endeavor of the country, Prime Minister Koirala called upon the civil servants to carry out their works sincerely.
Secreatary at the Ministry Hiranya Lal Regmi and director general of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Mohan Sundar Shrestha noted that after the completion of the construction works of the water supply office, further cooperation would be received in supplying potable water to the local people.
