Kathmandu, July 12: During special time at the meeting of the House of Representatives today, five MPs drew the attention of His Majesty’s Government towards the current issues such as the proposed visit of the Prime Minister to India, bonded labour, smoking and drinking, flood and landslides.

Kedar Prasad Neupane of the CPN-UML, who was the first speaker, said that the points of agreement between the home secretaries of Nepal and India should be made public, the unequal treaty of 1950 reviewed and government should be more serious on the Kalapani issue.

Bir Bahadur Singh of the same party called upon the government to send necessary health workers to Karnali zone, make the teachers active in taking regular classes, pay attention to irrigation and utilise local medicinal herbs.

Mahendra Kumar Mishra of the Nepali Congress (NC) said that as consuming liquor and smoking had been claiming thousands of lives every year, the government should be serious about the matter and suggested that children below sixteen years should be prohibited from buying and selling tobacco products and liquor.

MP Kaiya Chaudhari said that bonded labour was shameful, and there had been difference in the number of bonded labourers reported by the government and non-governmental organisations.

Jeevan Prem Shrestha of the Nepali Congress said that massive loss of life and property has been caused by flood and landslide in the western and far western regions, while the flood victims of Tanahu and Syangja districts received relief assistance, those of Gorkha did not.
