Kathmandu, June 8: Society of Environmental Journalists Nepal has said that there has been no improvement in air pollution of Kathmandu Valley even after the ban imposed on vikram tempos.
At a press conference, the Society presented its report jointly prepared with the ministry of environment and other non-governmental organisations after measuring the quality of air, dust, etc which causes pollution at Thimi, Bhaktapur, Battisputali, Kalimati and Balaju from the month of Poush to Chaitra, 2056 B.S.
Advisor to the Society Dr. Krishna Giri said that as the situation of air pollution was still serious even after removing the vikram tempos, it was necessary to give attention to various industries causing pollution, brick kilns, old vehicles, adulteration of petroleum products, road improvement, etc.
Secretary at the Ministry of Population and Environment Dr. Govinda Bhatta said that a policy has been adopted to remove vehicles which are more than 25 years old from Kathmandu Valley, ban the entry of vehicles with big chasis within the ring road, give special attention to check adulteration of petroleum products and conduct pollution tests of vehicles, and gradually remove the industries causing pollution from the Valley.
