Politics is for serving people: Nepal

Kathmandu, June 1: CPN-UML general secretary and main opposition party leader at the House of Representatives Madhav Kumar Nepal presented letters of appreciation to 300 persons who donated their eyes posthumously at an eye donation programme at dahachowk today.

On the occasion, Mr Nepal said politics is for serving the nation and the people and the politics that does not provide relief to the people afflicted by poverty and illiteracy is anti-people.

Giving light to those who are deprived of eye-sight is an exemplary work, Mr Nepal said and handed over a letter of appreciation presented by Tilganga Hospital to the VDC.

Manager of Tilganga Eye Bank Shanghanarayan Tyayana said there is one blind person in every 100 people, adding that eye transplantation has been performed in a total of 1070 blind people so far.

Various other speakers including president of the Nepal health technicians association Hira Sharma also expressed their views at the function chaired by VDC chairman Balkrishna Giri.
