Dhangadhi, May 27: The Kamaiya bonded labourers of Geta VDC, Kailali, who had been staging a sit-in at the gate of the district administration office, Kailali since May 11 pressing for the fulfilment of various demands concerning their rights, called off the sit-in for four days on May 25.
The move came after the sectors concerned participating in all-party meetings held on tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the Kamaiya problems expressed their commitment to take immediate measures to resolve those problems.
Meanwhile, the Kamaiya movement action committee issued a notice recently warning of other agitation if the problems remain unresolved even after four days.
The district Landless Settlers Problem Resolution Commission, Kailali has expressed its commitment to immediately providing land to the protesting Kamaiyas. In this connection a team led by the co-convenor of the commission has already started looking for land for the Kamaiyas, according to action committee chairman Dilli Bahadur Chaudhari.
Meanwhile, a recent meeting of various organisations linked with human rights and oppressed community demanded action against the guilty said to be from upper class who were involved in calling for a boycott of the chamar community of Lahan against the spirit of the constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal-1990.
The organisations have expressed solidarity with the chamar community who have been launching an agitation for their rights and formed a five member committee under the convenorship of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) to hold necessary deliberation for supporting their movement, according to INSEC.
Some 16 organisations linked with human rights and the oppressed communities had attended the meeting.
