Kathmandu, Dec. 31 ): Ex-minister Sribhadra Sharma has described the venomous remarks made by K.R Malkani, a top leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party of India about Nepal, as blatantly wrong and a concoction of history attempted at undermining Nepal’s independence, sovereignty and self respect of the Nepalese people.

In a statement issued here today, Mr Sharma has said that every Nepali strongly condemns such an despicable attempt. He has also urged His Majesty’s Government not to lag behind in strongly and immediately protesting against such an irresponsible, condemnable and inept remark.

His late Majesty King Tribhuvan had never made a proposal as has been claimed by Malkani nor was it possible for a sovereign monarch to make such a proposal, Mr Sharma said, adding the truth that is clear to all Nepalese is that following the rejection by the then Nijam to allow the annexation of Hyderabad, the present capital of Andhra Pradesh, to India, then Home Minister of India Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel forcibly annexed the State to India by using the police force.

At the same time, Mr Sharma further said, Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel wanted to annex Nepal to India as he did in the case of Hyderabad but then Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru stopped Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel from making this mistake for the fear of drawing severe international criticism. And, he said, all the Nepalese are grateful to the Nehru for this sagacity.

Describing Mr Malkani’s attempt to concoct the history and drag His late Majesty King Tribhuvan into this unfounded controversy as an ill attempt also to contaminate the popular faith in the institution of the Crown in Nepal, Mr Sharma said Malkani should have borne in mind as to what impact his inept and venomous remarks would have on the existing close and cordial relations between Nepal and India.
