The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has informed that at least 62 Maoists surrendered to security forces expressing dissatisfaction over the Maoists’ activities in the last one week.
A press release issued by the Directorate of Public Relations of the RNA said 60 Maoists including a secretary and members of the village unit of the Maoists surrendered in Gulmi on Oct 2.
Similarly, Giri Raj Devkota alias Prem surrendered in Gorkha along with grenades, socket bombs and combat dress on Oct 4 while Naresh Mall alias Himal of Chaulahi area of Dang surrendered in Dang district on Oct 4.
The statement also added that a group of armed Maoists looted Rs.600,000 from a resident of Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu and Rs.90,000 from a resident of Dallu, Tulsidhara on Monday.
On Saturday, the Maoists robbed Rs.10,000 from a villager living at Belkot area of Nuwakot District.
The security forces arrested district president of the Maoists Pitamber Pokharel and another Maoist Yamanath Poudel from Gunjanagar area of Chitwan District on Sunday.
Similarly, the security forces apprehended a district secretary of a sister organisation of the Maoists, Khagendra Subedi, along with a pistol and bullets and a regional bureau member of All Nepal Women’s Association (Revolutionary) Santa Rai ‘Bhawana’ along with some documents from Singhadevi area of Morang District on September 29, the statement added.
