The 50th Police Day (Police Day – 2062) was observed in a programme organised Monday at the police headquarters, Naxal.
Crown Prince Paras and Crown Princess Himani graced a special function on the occasion and observed with keen interest the march past, pageantry display, police band display and display of historical police uniforms put on by different groups of the Nepal Police.
The Crown Prince gave away the Purnashanti Award of 2062 to police Sub-inspector Pusbahadur Gurung, the award for outstanding investigation officer to Sub-inspector Thamanbahadur Khatri, the outstanding traffic police award to Sergeant Yambahadur Karki and the outstanding community police award to woman police Sergeant Rama Chudal, according to the Rashtriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the government-owned news agency.
Similarly, Crown Prince Paras presented letters of appreciation for outstanding police trainee to Sergeant Khadga Bahadur Rana, SSP Sharada Bhakta Ranjit for march past, and the Yogendra Memorial Smirit Sahasik award to Bikram Neupane of Himal Rescue Association.
At the same function, Home Minister Dan Bahadur Shahi expressed his deep reverences to the martyrs of Nepal Police who gave their lives in the line of duty to protect people and properties. He also expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members of the deceased police personnel, the Rising Nepal said quoting the RSS.
Minister Shahi also distributed letters of appreciation and certificates to the staff members who took part in training organised for injured policemen.
Inspector General of Nepal Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa said that Nepal Police, with a glorious history of five decades, is matured and capable and has been successful in establishing its special identity in the international arena.
On the occasion, Home Secretary Chandi Prasad Shrestha, Inspector General of Nepal Police Thapa, Former Inspector Generals, President of Police Family’s Women’s Association, family members of martyred police personnel, senior police officers, former officers of police, and media people offered flowers and garlands on the monument established in memory of martyrs in the premises of Police Headquarters.
The police organisation now comprises 47,349 personnel, according to the RSS.
