Kathmandu, Jan. 6 : Forty-two Nepali Congress (NC) members of the House of Representatives, in a press statement published here today, have demanded with HMG to take all possible steps so the communal harmony is not affected.

In the statement, they have stated that it is the national duty of all the political parties and civic society to help consolidate communal harmony, and the role of the government is vital in this regard.

Stating that Nepal, which is renowned for being free from any ethnic, regional, linguistic and religious bickering, had been affected by violence and killings for some time now, they have said that the increase in activities affecting ethnic and communal harmony is a matter of deep concern.

They further said in the press statement, “activities fomenting unrest to hurt the sensitivity of ethnic and regional identity have thrown all economic activities including the tourism sector into disorder, and as the role of the governmental security and communication agencies is ineffective and not far-reaching, the complexity has increased.”

They have also called upon the government to provide due compensation for the loss of life and property during assault and government action at various places in the country.
