Activists of Chure Bhawar Ekata Samaj have apprehended 33 lawyers from Hariaun of Sarlahi district on Thursday afternoon.
The lawyers who were traveling on a reserved bus from Hetauda were held by Chure activists to protest the arrest of their 9 workers by the government.
The emergency meeting of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) held on Thursday has condemned the move by Chure Bhawar and has asked them to immediately release them.
A statement issued by NBA president Bishwo Kanta Mainali has asked that the protesters release all the legal practitioners immediately.
Meanwhile, in an apparent continuation of violence in Terai region, the two factions of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) have killed two persons in separate incidents.
In Lahan of Siraha district, JTMM-Jwala Singh cadres shot to death one Ambika Upreti, 57. Owning up the responsibility for his killing, JTMM’s district in-charge Toofan Singh ‘Bidrohi’ said that ‘Terai Liberation Army’ had taken the action as per its campaign to obstruct government employees in the region.
In a separate incident, cadres of JTMM-Goit faction have killed Sahadev Shah, 40, in Banarjhula-4 Kanchira of Saptari district. He has been accused of acting as ‘informer.’
