At least 22 passengers were killed and several others were injured when a passenger bus met with an accident at Chanaute area of Sindhupalchok district Sunday morning.
Assistant Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchok, Kamal Raj Bhandari, told Nepalnews over phone that the accident took place at around 10:45 a. m.
He said injured people have been taken to Dhulikhel and Kathmandu for treatment.
Bhandari said police from Barhabise and district headquarter of Chautara have already left for the site of accident to carry out rescue works.
The accident took place along the Araniko highway, some 70 km east of the capital, Kathmandu.
The ill-fated bus was on its way to Jalbire, Sindhupalchowk, from Kathmandu, according to reports.
Preliminary reports had said as many as 35 passengers may have been killed in the accident.
Details are still awaited.
