The Islamabad Declaration approved on January 6, 2004 at the 12th SAARC summit has announced to mark 2005 as a South Asian Year of Tourism.
Realizing the need for increasing cooperation to jointly promote tourism within South Asia as well as to promote south Asia as a tourism destination inter alias by improved air links, the year 2005 has been designated as South Asia Tourism Year for the success of which each member would individually and jointly organize special events.
The South Asia Tourism Year to be observed in line with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the regional body, SAARC is expected to enhance development of tourism to bring social, cultural and economic dividends. nepalnews.com dr Jan 10
