Eleven Maoists, four armed police (including a superintendent of police) and six civilians were killed in the latest skirmishes across the country on Monday, Radio Nepal said Tuesday.
According to the Radio, six Maoists were shot dead in a clash with the security forces in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi. All the six dead bodies have been identified as those local Maoists, the Radio said.
In Therakachori, Dhanusha, three Maoists were killed on the spot when they unsuccessfully tried to ambush a patrolling team of security forces.
In Malakheti, Kailali, villagers tried to repulse a Maoist attack but the Maoists killed six civilians in the fighting, the radio report said. Two Maoists were killed with the explosion of their own socket bombs in the incident.
In Chyangley, Gorkha, Maoists ambushed nine armed policemen killing four. Superintendent of Police (SP) Surya Kumar Shrestha was killed in the ambush. Police constables Bhim Bahadur Shrestha, Lila Bahadur Darji and Govinda Shrestha were also killed.
Five policemen, including an inspector, sustained injuries in the ambush, the Radio said.
