With detainees of various jails intensifying stir for general amnesty in the changed political scenario, around 105 prisoners and 13 policemen were injured during clashes in Jaleshwor jail.
According to reports, the clash erupted after the jailbirds went on a vandalising spree, claiming that their demand for amnesty was being ignored.
Police had to fire 32 tear gas shells and resort to blank firing to control the mob.
Reports quoted Superintendent of Police of Mahottari, Ramesh Kumar Phuyal, as saying that police had to swing into action as the prisoners went berserk, ignoring all requests for dialogue.
There are 179 prisoners in Jaleshwor prison.
Thirteen of the injured prisoners are undergoing treatment at Mahottari District Hospital. Of them, four are said to be in a critical condition.
Maoist prisoners of conscience Ram Shobhit Yadav, Suresh Mandal, Subheshwor Yadav, Ganesh Yadav, Raj Kumar Mukhiya and Yogendra Shah were injured when the rampaging inmates beat them for not joining the stir.
Meanwhile backing the stir initiated by the jailbirds in various jails, prisoners of various jails of Kathmandu also denied access to new entrants.
Detainees of various prisons protested demanding their amnesty after the new government took control and released Maoist detainees to create conducive environment for talks.
Twenty-two prisoners and three police personnel were injured in clashes that ensued at the Siraha Prison on Wednesday.
Similarly, three inmates and one policeman were injured when inmates of Parasi jail vandalized and torched the jail on Tuesday demanding general amnesty to all the detainees.
