The high-level police probe committee formed to investigate the Naya Baneshwore incident of Dec 2 has said that the incident occurred due to weak security management by Chief of Valley Police Office, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Krishna Basnet.

A report prepared by a six-member probe team headed by DIG Him Gurung after interrogating more than 50 police officers assigned for the Royal procession duty as well as those in the control room on Friday, said that Basnet, who was assigned control of the CPN-UML mass meeting and crowd in Baneshwore, failed to fulfill his responsibility.

Protestors pelted stones at the royal motorcade on its way to Tribhuvan International Airport to receive their Majesties the King and the Queen upon their arrival home.

The Home Ministry suspended Superintendent of Police Indra Neupane of Kathmandu District Police Office and two police inspectors in connection with the incident earlier.
