Kathmandu, Nov.11: The United Nations Capital Development Fund
(UNCDF) will invest five million dollars in local development schemes in
eight of the kingdom’75 administrative districts in the rural transport,
social services, environment and human resources development sectors.
The development schemes to be chosen and implemented locally was
launched in Achham, Kaski, Rupandehi, Dolakha, Kabhre, Danusha, Udayapur
and Terethum Friday.

Three million dollars will be disbursed in three years- one million
dollars every year- while the rest will be channelled to human resources
development and technical support.

The scheme hopes to alleviate poverty through decentralized financial
management.

” The fund will further strengthen the capacity of local elected
bodies to plan, finance and deliver services to the rural poor,” UNDP
Resident Representative Henning Kracher said.

UNCDF Deputy Executive Secretary Alberic Kacou participated in the
programme launch.
