The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) Saturday said the police interventions in the five-party protests are being done under direct guidance by the government.

During a meeting of Valley Coordination Committee of the party, leaders were of a common view that the police actions against protests were resulting from the government’s motive to gag the voices raised in favor of democracy.

UML central committee member Subash Nemwang informed Nepalnews that the party has discussed ways to counter the government intervention.

“The government resorted to violence shamelessly to disrupt our peaceful protests,” said he, adding that the parties had taken to streets using the rights ensured by the constitution.

He informed that the party has decided to mobilize cadres to make effective the protests that will continue for three consecutive days claiming that party workers would be mobilized in a massive way for the publicity campaign to be launched on Sunday in favor of Monday’s Kathmandu valley Bandh.

The government’s action, Nemwang said, has forced parties to resort to tougher retaliatory measures.

Police had arrested dozens of top leaders and injured many by using water cannons and tear gas cells during Friday’s protests organized to coincide with Martyr’s Day.
