December 25, 2001 KATHMANDU: Fourteen players have been named for the U-19 World Cup team being hosted by New Zealand from January 14. A selection committee headed by member of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) member Tarakmani Dixit and on the recommendation of the National Sports Council made the selection.
The team includes: Binod Kumar Das (C), Bardan Chalise (VC), Lakpa Lama, Major Katuwal, Shakti Gauchan, Basant Regmi, Basudev Thapa, Pramod Basnet, Kaniska Chaugain, Sanjam Regmi, Prem Chanduary, Rohit Sharma, Yashwant Subedi and Sanjib Shrestha. Munik Kumar Shrestha, Dipesh Khatri, Narendra Bohara and Prakash Sharma have been selected as extras.
All selected players were members of the squad that won the U-19 Youth Asia Cup cricket tournament in the capital in October to give Nepal a berth for the New Zealand tournament for the first time.
