Indian security personnel have arrested at least two Nepali insurgents who had fled across the border after a heavy fight with the security personnel in the mid-western district of Bardiya Monday, reports said.
A BBC correspondent in Indian city of Lucknow quoted director general of the Indian para-military force, SSB, Satyabrat Bansal, as saying that two injured Maoists were taken into custody along with arms and ammunition.
Indian security personnel have been kept on alert on suspicion that more Nepali insurgents may have fled across the border into the Indian territory, he said.
Security officials have confirmed that bodies of 46 insurgents had been recovered from the site of fierce clashes at Ganeshpur in Bardiya district on Monday. The number of casualties on the part of rebels could be much higher, authorities said. A huge cache of arms and ammunitions had also been recovered from the site of clashes.
Four security personnel were killed and one dozen others injured when hundreds of Maoists opened fire at the security team that had visited the area to clear the roadblock set up by the rebels, according to reports.
Kantipur daily quoted head of the Mid-western division of the Royal Nepalese Army, Dipak Bikram Rana, as saying that they were in contact with the Indian security personnel across the border. The Nepal-India border is just a km away from the site of the clashes.
Rana said the RNA had not obstructed in the treatment of injured rebels who were undergoing treatment at the nearby Magaragadi health center in the district. He also urged the injured insurgents to give up violence and return to normal life.
The daily reported that SSB personnel at Baharaich, India, have taken into custody four Nepali rebels who were injured and had fled after the clashes.
