Security personnel in course of the operations launched in Rukum rescued Purna Bahadur Shahi, a British Embassy employee who had been abducted by the Maoists two months back, security sources said.

As the Maoists were fleeing the areas in Rukum after the launching of a massive security operation, Shahi came forward and gave his identity calling on the security personnel to rescue him.

Shahi works for the British Welfare Scheme. His abduction had stirred a lot of anxiety in the west as it was the first incident of abduction of an employee working for a foreign mission in Nepal.
