Following reports that the Maoist students have withdrawn their indefinite educational strike, many school students went to school. However most schools have remained closed as school administrations are waiting for the official statement on the withdrawal from All Nepal National Independent Students Union –Revolutionary (ANNISU-R).

“There are rumors about the withdrawal of the indefinite educational strike and we have been fielding inquires from students all day, but we asked them to wait till Sunday,” an administrator of VS Niketan School told Nepalnews.

The administrator added that students are very eager to attend schools once again.

Many students have appealed to authorities to end the school strike. A  student of Dhading studying in Kathmandu, Sirjana Thapa, said that she was tired of the bandhs and added, “I have no one here in Kathamndu. I came all the way from my village in Dhading just to study and it was indeed very difficult for me pass the time.”

According to Friday radio reports, the Maoist affiliated student group ANNISU-R withdrew the strike on Thursday evening once the government committed to remove the ‘terrorist tag’ that had been imposed on the group. However, there hasn’t been an official statement from the ANNISU-R yet.

The government said it was ready to remove the ‘terrorist’ tag provided the revolutionary students declare educational institutions as zones of peace. The ANNISUR reportedly is positive on the government’s proposal.
