Despite the calls made by Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala to the estranged congress workers and leaders of the splinter group headed by Prime Minister Deuba to join the parent party, possibilities of unity are narrowing as the Deuba faction is preparing to register a new party coming Monday.

The Koirala Congress held an informal meeting Friday at the residence of former Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat.

Mahat was quoted by the media as saying that the issue of unification did not figure during the discussions. “We just discussed the contemporary political situation of the country and reviewed the security in connection with the upcoming elections,” Mahat said.

Though there were rumours that the two Congress groups were preparing to unite, both the sides

ruled out the possibility of unity Friday.
