In what seems to be an important development, His Majesty King Gyanendra is to address the nation at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, an official announcement said.

The state-owned Radio Nepal did not provide details.

His Majesty’s address will be broadcast live on the state-owned Nepal Television and Radio Nepal. On Monday evening, King Gyanendra had granted audience to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and chiefs of security agencies separately.

The content of the meeting have not been made public but reports said quoting sources that premier Deuba and top security officials briefed His Majesty on the security situation in the country in view of proposed parliamentary elections.

The premier has said the government will call fresh polls soon but his own coalition partners have been saying that elections can’t be held until peace negotiations resume with the Maoist insurgents.
