As the row is increasing in the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), RPP chairman Pashupati Sumsher Rana on Saturday dismissed Padma Sundar Lawati from the post of party vice-chairman.

Similarly, Rana has appointed Central Committee member Parshuram Khapung to the post of party spokesperson.

Khapung replaced Roshan Karki, who is currently the assistant minister for local development. Karki had resigned from the post of party spokesperson after she was appointed as the assistant minister.

The decision came a day after the central committee meeting let the district committees decide on their own on the participation of municipal polls after serious disagreement between two factions of the RPP, one led by party chairman Rana and another led by party vice-chairman Lawati and supported by the party leaders, who secured their position in the government.

Immediately after the decision of the party president, Lawati has called a national convention of the party in the capital on January 16-17 in order to take a decision and go for municipal polls.

Party supremo Rana, however, rubbished it as “absurd” and against the party statute, while Lawati said they were compelled to convene the special convention of the party due to Rana’s “indifference” towards implementing “previous pronouncements” and the demand of the 527 convention representatives to call the special convention.

The royalist RPP is on the verge of split following the appointment of six party leaders for the post of ministers. The dissident faction of RPP led by Lawati is in favor of participating in the municipal polls slated for February 8. However, the party said that there is no conducive environment for polls.
