Probe panel to investigate Manipal tragedy

Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) on Friday formed a team headed by joint secretary Laba Prashad Tripathi to probe the incident of roof collapse of Manipal Teaching Hospital (MTH) in Pokhara.

According to MoES, the team has to submit its report within a week.

The six-storey hospital building constructed with 50-year guarantee collapsed on Thursday killing 10 people and injuring nine others.

Meanwhile, the MTH has said that it would carry out an internal investigation into the mishap.

The MTH administration has said it has invited a technical team from MTH India and Space Tech Engineers of Mumbai, the constructors of the roof for investigation.

The MTH announced to provide Rs 200 thousand compensation and employment to one member of each family [based on the education qualification] of those killed in the incident. The hospital also announced Rs 50,000 compensation and free treatment to each of the injured persons.
