Prime suspect of Nabil Bank heist arrested

Security officials Wednesday arrested Niranjan Khanal, the prime suspect of the robbery at the Kantipur branch of Nabil Bank.

He was arrested by the Military Police of the Royal Nepalese Army at around 2:00 p.m., a statement of the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) said. The DPR however did not reveal under what circumstances he was held.

Khanal, 17, was on the run after looting Rs.6 million from the bank in the afternoon of December 14. The cash and the revolver used for the heist were recovered from his brother’s room at Hepali Height of Khadka Bhadrakali VDC, Kathmandu, within hours.

The accused was handed over to the police immediately after the arrest and is undergoing interrogation at the District Police Office at Hanumandhoka.
