Kathmandu- Former Chief Justice (CJ) and chief of the drafting committee of the 1990 constitution Bishwo Nath Upadhaya has said that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has become main obstacle in rescuing the country from the present political crisis.

Talking to 91.8 MHZ FM Thursday morning, the former CJ said the dissolved House of Representatives might be revived if the PM demanded for its reinstatement from the King. “But, since both the PM and the King are against the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives, it may not be possible right now,” the FM quoted the former CJ as saying.

“As the parliament was the only place where all constitutional forces including the King can sit together, it (parliament) must be revived,” he said and added, “Maoists will also be compelled to sit for peace talks if the country’s polity returned to a situation prior to that of October 4, 2002.”

Four agitating opposition parties including Nepali Congress have been demanding for the revival of the dissolved House and formation of an all-party government.

Of late, the leaders of the ruling Nepali Congress (Democratic) have demanded the party leadership to open the option of the House revival issue in the party. “In the developed political context, parliament is the only place where all the forces including the King can sit together, so we have urged the party leadership to open the option of the house revival issue,” former minister and lawmaker in the dissolved House, Sharad Singh Bhandari, told Nepalnews Wednesday evening after party’s CWC meeting.

Noteworthy, Madhav Kumar Nepal-Secretary General of the CPN-UML recently said that his party was not against reinstating the dissolved parliament if it helped to break the political impasse in the country.
