KATHMANDU:  Security forces shot and killed a Maoist identified as Lopsang in Kavre district Monday. He was trying to plant a land mine on the road at Dhuseni Gaon.

Explosives and Maoist literature have been recovered from him, reports quoting security sources said.

Meanwhile, at least six persons were injured in a landmine explosion planted by Maoists at Ward No. 5 of Manma, Kalikot today. Five policemen and a villager were injured in the blast. The landmine exploded when the policemen were removing a Maoist flag this morning, reports said.

One of the injured is said to be in critical condition. The injured have been airlifted to Nepalgunj and are undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital, the reports added.
