The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has opened Nepalgunj, Biratnagar and Bhairawa airports for night flights until 8 PM to help stranded commuters.

The CAAN took the decision after vehicular traffic was disrupted along national highways since Sunday following unprecedented monsoon rains. Landslides have blocked highways in the hills and floods have washed away roads in the plains.

The Department of Roads was working frantically Thursday to clear landslides on the Tribhuvan and the Prithvi Highways and re-open Kathmandu’s road links with the rest of the kingdom as prices of

vegetables soared following shortages.

But officials at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) are esthetic. The water level at the Kulehkani reservoir has risen by 20 meters in two days following Sunday’s downpour and it will be full in the next two days, Govinda K. C., Deputy Managing Director of NEA said. The water level normally rises by 50 centimeters a day during the rainy season.

C. predicted there will be no load shedding during the dry spell.
