Dissolving the existing human rights committees functioning under different ministries, the government has formed the National Coordination Committee for Protection and Promotion of Human Rights (NCCPPHR).
The dissolved committees are Human Rights Protection Committee, Director Committee for Human Rights Promotion and National Human Rights Action Plan Implementation and Evaluation Committee.
According to reports, the NCCPPHR has been formed to monitor the human rights situation across the Kingdom in a coordinated way.
Foreign minister Ramesh Nath Pandey is the chairman of the committee while other members are Chief of the Army Staff, Attorney General, Chief Secretary of the HMG and secretaries representing foreign, home, defense ministries.
“I will work actively to ensure the promotion and protection of human rights in the Kingdom,” state run English daily -The Rising Nepal- quoted the newly appointed NCCPPHR chairman, foreign minister Ramesh Nath Pandey as saying.
The government has also formed a Public Relations Sub-Committee under the main committee led by the Attorney General. Members of the Sub-Committee include secretary of the Council of Ministers, Presidents of Nepal Press Council, Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Nepal Bar Association and three members representing the civil society.
