New Delhi directs Bihar to watch Maoist activities

KATHMANDU: The Union Home Ministry has directed Bihar state government  to monitor the activities of Maoists, published Indian reports said. The central government has asked Bihar to liaise with the Special Service Bureau (SSB) in four areas of the district bordering Nepal, prepare a list of sympathizers and keep a tab on activities of some organizations.

Police in New Delhi and Darjeeling have arrested six Nepali Maoists with explosives and detonators bound for Nepal, published reports said. Twelve suspects were arrested for questioning for laying an ambush in Lamjung this week killing three soldiers and injuring 24 others, Radio Nepal said quoting officials.

Five women rebels, including commander Kamala Thapa, were nabbed in search and cordon operations at Belasa village in Bardiya Sunday and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from them, officials said.

Altogether 63 suspected Maoists and 182 rebels surrendered to local administration in Makwanpur and Sunsari districts respectively since an emergency was slapped November 26, officials said.

Rebels Sunday night blasted the home of Nepali Congress Banke district president Krishna Man Shrestha, police said. Nobody was injured in the explosion.
