Nepal-India secretary level Inter government committee meeting kicked off in Kathmandu on Thursday, reports said.
The meeting will discuss resolving the problems faced during the implementation of the Nepal-India trade treaty and to promote investment and trade between the countries.
Some of the agendas from Nepal’s side are problems faced in the export of quota allotted goods and the problems raised by the Indian side in the export of agricultural products regarding the quarantine test.
Meanwhile, the Indian side demanded to let Indian vehicles in Nepal, to give easy entrance to the Indian agricultural products and to charge equal censorship examination charge on Indian ads and films as for the Nepali ads and films.
The Indian side is reported to have created problems mainly in the export of products like vegetable ghee, Yakroline yarn, zinc oxide, copper wire, ginger, Nepali tea and others from Nepal.
Nepal also requested the termination of custom duties hike in Nepali pashmina products. Nepal also suggested an establishment of a customs office at Haldiya port, India, to establish an export promotion center and to operate transportation between the countries to promote bilateral trade.
Secretary of Ministry for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Dinesh Chandra Pyakurel is leading the 18 member Nepali team while the 26 member Indian side is headed by Indian Commerce Secretary, Deepak Chattergee.
According to Assistant secretary of the ministry, Purshottam Ojha, the first day meeting concluded with a formation of a sub-committee to discuss the proposed agendas by both the parties.
The meeting will be held for three days.
