Nepal and China agreed to expedite the implementation of the six-point cooperation agreement reached between the two countries during the official visit of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji in May this year, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under the agreement, China had agreed to construct a civil service hospital, the Rasuwa-Syaphrubesi road and a polytechnic institute, among others. A Chinese study team is to arrive soon for the purpose of construction of these projects. This was agreed in the Nepal-China Consultation Mechanism meeting held in Beijing.
Foreign Secretary Narayan Sumsher Thapa led the Nepalese delegation with Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi the head of Chinese delegation in the meeting. The meeting discussed bilateral trade, areas of cooperation and all other bilateral issues between the two countries, Foreign Ministry said.
They agreed to open more border points for bilateral trade between the two countries. China has agreed to consider Nepal’s request to include Beijing and Xian as two more points beyond Shanghai for air flights.
According to Foreign Ministry, Nepal asked the Chinese side to grant visas to Nepalese nationals upon arrival in Hong Kong airport. Chinese authorities have assured to forward it to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, foreign Ministry said.
