A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed Monday between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Kathmandu Electric Vehicle Alliance (KEVA) for the institutional set up of the Kathmandu-Bhaktapur trolley bus service, reports said.

Keshav Sthapit, mayor of KMC and Bibek Chapagain, in-country coordinator of KEVA, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations, the reports said.

The purpose of the agreement is to make the only trolley bus service of the country a profit making public partnership business venture, a statement said.

As per the MoU, KMC has been requested to develop a business plan for the trolley bus system, which will be based on a study commissioned by Winrock International that was prepared immediately after the closure of the trolley bus service in December 2001, the reports said.
