Miss Iceland, Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir, was crowned Miss World 2005 in the Sanya, China on Saturday, leaving 102 beauties of the world behind.
The 21-year-old is a part-time police officer and wants to be a lawyer. Unnur was born in the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, and is 1.73 meters tall and enjoys hiking, camping and playing the piano. Her motto is, “You are what you do.”
After being crowned Miss World, Unnur said, “In the coming year I want to do as much as I can to help. I would love to do what I can do for charity and the children of the world.”
Miss Mexico, Dafne Molina Lona was declared first runner-up and Miss Puerto Rico, Ingrid Marie Rivera Santos was the second runner-up.
The winner was chosen by the panel of nine former Miss Worlds chaired by Miss World Chairman Julia Morley.
Six Miss World ambassadors were also chosen including Miss World Northern Europe as Miss Iceland, Unnur, Miss World Africa as Nancy Sumari from Tanzania, Miss World America as Dafne Molina Lorna from Mexico, Miss World Asia Pacific as Oh Eun-Young from Korea, Miss World Caribbean as Ingrid Marie Rivera Santos from Puerto Rico and Miss World Southern Europe as Sofia Bruscoli from Italy.
The show had a strong Chinese flavor with two acts firmly rooted in China’s ancient culture; the first act involving traditional dances, while the second act brought to life the spirit of the peacock in a delicate ballet performance.
