Maoist detainee released, arrested, other details

A suspected Maoist under  police detention was released Friday on Supreme Court orders but was immediately arrested in neighbouring Nuwakot district, his family said. Police re-arrested Janak Prasad Adhikari, an employee of the Irrigation Department, Tripureshwor, immediately after he was released from Nuwakot Prison; the Supreme Court ordered his release Thursday.

Adhikari was driven away to an unknown destination in a vehicle, eyewitnesses said. The Supreme Court said it will raise the issue of administrative defiance of apex court orders with Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand.

A Kathmandu Court Friday released 13 policemen on bail ranging from Rs.3,000 to Rs.30,000 after they were imprisoned for allegedly helping in the flight of a prisoner accused of drug trafficking,
