Local people organized a sit in protest in front of the office of the Maoist affiliated Newa Rastriya Mukti Morcha (Newa National Liberation Front) and other fraternal organizations in Kupandole protesting the Maoist pressure to accommodate and feed their party cadres.
The locals also organized a chhaka jam (traffic movement halt) in Kupandole area protesting the Maoist excesses. Irate locals chanted slogans against the Maoists.
The locals warned that they will continue sit-in and protests until Maoist leadership assured them that their cadres will not pressurize them to feed and provide shelter to their cadres.
The Maoists have been forcing locals to accommodate and feed 10 cadres from each household for three days during their proposed mass meeting of November 10 at Open Air Theatre of the capital.
Maoist chairman Prachanda will be addressing the mass meeting. The Maoists are planning to bring one million people to the mass meeting to be addressed by the party chairman.
The threats by the Maoists to keep a ‘record’ of the names of those refusing to cooperate has instilled fear among Kathmandu locals.
However, the Maoists have been denying such reports and saying that they are not forcing people to accommodate or feed their cadres.

Locals also went to the liaison office of the Maoists Tuesday to say that they could not provide shelter and feed their cadres. The locals’ organized protest on Wednesday after Maoist cadres warned to keep records of those denying shelter and food to their cadres.
