Japan provides 21 vehicles for waste management

The Japanese government has provided 21 vehicles worth Rs 70 million to Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan city for managing solid wastes of the two municipalities.

Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, Tsutomu Hiraoka, handed over the keys of the vehicles to the executive officers of KMC and Patan Sub-metropolitan Padma Raj Regmi and Ashok Shrestha respectively amidst a function in the capital on Wednesday.

KMC will use 17 vehicles while Patan Sub-Metropolis will use the remaining five.

Speaking at the programme, ambassador Hiraoka expressed the hope that the vehicles will help minimise the problem of solid waste in the municipalities.

Hari Prasad Rimal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Local Development, said that the vehicles would be utilised in carrying solid waste of the city to the landfill site at Okharpauwa.

The vehicles will help manage 80 percent to 85 percent wastes of the two cities.
