Police Tuesday released two reporters of “Jana Astha” from homicide charges. They were alleged of murdering actress Shrisha Karki. She committed suicide last year after the weekly printed her nude photo.
Police withdrew the murder charges from reporter duos Bishwomani Subedi and Yadav Prasad Pandey, as the Office of the Attorney General told the police that a suicide case cannot be converted into a homicide case, Nepal Samacharpatra said.
According to existing laws, police cannot file criminal cases at the court without the permission from the Office of the Attorney General.
Following the filing of a complaint by Nepal Film Artistes’ National Association at the District Police Office, Kathmandu, police had taken Subedi and Pandey into custody last Friday, the daily said. The duos were freed from custody Tuesday evening.
The Shrisha Karki suicide case had raised serious questions over the credibility of media for intervening in one’s personal life and making it public.
