KATHMANDU:  The Government of India has under the ‘India-Nepal bilateral cooperation programme’ proposed to establish a polytechnic in Hetauda, Makwanpur district, as part of its cooperation in strengthening the education sector here.

The proposed polytechnic with a cost estimate of 230 million Indian rupees is one among the five polytechnic institutes being established with Indian assistance in Nepal as institutes of excellence, a press release issued by the Indian Embassy on Tuesday said.

Work on one of the polytechnic in Biratnagar has already begun. The proposed polytechnic in Hetauda will train students in various branches of engineering, keeping in mind the market demand in and around Hetauda and other industrial townships in Nepal.

“The institute will be fully equipped to meet the present day demands, with accreditation from Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and will be producing engineers capable of competing in the international market,” the Embassy release said.

15 courses have been identified for teaching by an international faculty of Indian and Nepalese experts, it said.
