There have been heavy security forces and Maoist casualties as rebels overran police outposts in district headquarters of Khalanga Bazzar in Jumla in an overnight attack, security forces told Nepalnews Friday.
Four army personnel have been killed and 12 others have been wounded, a security source said. “The police outpost has been overrun and the dead are being collected,” a source said.
“There have been heavy rebel casualties,” another official source said. The army is continuing pursuing and blocking operations against the insurgents.
Several clashes have been reported in the blocking operations as rebels flee from a combined aerial and ground operation. Reinforcements were sent in from Surkhet and Nepalgunj.
Reports from Jumla said operations are being conducted in adverse weather conditions.
Eight security personnel were injured in a rebel attack on security forces at Takukot in Gorkha overrnight, Radio Nepal said quoting security officials. The injured have been evacuated to Pokhara where they are undergoing treatment.
Army and police suffered reverses in Maoist attacks in Sindhuli and Argakanchi in the second week of September.
