Kathmandu, Aug. 23 (RSS):   Minister of State for Women, Children and Social Welfare Mrs Kamala Pant has said that HMG is sensitive on protecting the rights and interests of the deaf and hard of hearing persons and developing their personalities.

Inaugurating the third annual general meeting of the National Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association, Minister of State Pant said that HMG had recently decided not to remove any temporary disabled employees.

Minister of State Pant gave away certificates to the members of the association, and the instructors and participants of various programmes conducted by it and also released the part four of the sign language book.

Chief District Officer Tulasi Prasad Bhattarai said that all the associations should work jointly to develop sign language and enhance the efficiency of the deaf and hard of hearing persons.

President of National Disabled Federation Muniswar Panday, President of Nepal Blind Welfare Association Kamal Rupakheti and a host of other speakers spoke on the need to resolve the problems of the deaf and hard of hearing persons at the function chaired by president of the Association Nirmal Kumar Devkota.

Association general secretary Srijana Ranjit shed light on the annual programme while member Shiva Dahal spoke about the problems of the deaf.

The number of Deaf in Nepal is believed to be over seven hundred thousand.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Women, Children and Social Welfare Kamala Pant, inaugurating the third district convention of the Federation of non-Governmental Organisation (FNGO) Kathmandu branch here today, said that the government is effortful to correct the mistakes that have surfaced in the Organisations Registration act 2034.

She made it clear that despite efforts on the part of the government to bring in a bill to amend the existing act during the recently concluded 18th session of Parliament, it could not be done so because of lack of co-ordination between the concerned government bodies.

Central chairman of the Federation Gauri Pradhan said as the onerous task of national development cannot be accomplished through the sole effort of the government, non-governmental organisations have a vital role in the all round development of the country.

He noted that though the federation co-operates with and exerts pressure on the government, it is in fact its partner in carrying out social welfare and the task of national development, not its foe.

Kathmandu DDC member Gunjaman Singh Basnet threw light on the importance of non-governmental organisations at the function chaired by FNGO Kathmandu branch chairman Devika Timilsina.
