The government on Monday transferred Chief District Officer (CDO) of Jhapa district, Kapil Dev Ghimire, against election Code of Conduct even after the Election Commission (EC) publicized programme for municipal polls.

As per the election code of conduct no officials should be transferred after the publication of Election programme.

However, talking to Nepalnews on Wednesday, Spokesman of the EC Tej Muni Bajracharya said that the government might transfer officials with the consent of EC.

He informed that the Commission did not have any reservation regarding the transfer of CDO Ghimire.

The government has transferred Ghimire to the Zonal Administration Office Hetauda.

According to reports the government transferred him at the same day the EC appointed CDOs of the districts, which have municipalities, as Election Officers for the municipal elections.

The government move come at a time when the political parties are boycotting the polls saying there will be no free and fair polls under the King’s direct rule.

Despite the call from alliance of seven major opposition political parties the EC is holding election on February 8 next year.
