Opposition leader Gajendra Narayan Singh will be cremated with full state honours at his hometown in Rajbiraj Thursday, an official announcement said. The Chairman of the Nepal Sadbhavana Party and National Assembly member died Wednesday at a hospital in the capital after a heart attack.

Leaders of political parties, including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, condoled Singh’s death. Singh’s body was later placed at the party headquarters in the capital where a wide section paid floral tributes.

The body will be placed for public viewing at Ratna Park Thursday before being flown to Rajbiraj for cremation. Singh started his political career as an activist of the Nepali Congress Party. He participated in a revolution to overthrow the Rana regime and was jailed for seven years for opposition politics.

He was a minster in a coalition government for some months after restoration of multi-party democracy in 1990.
