KATHMANDU: The top leaders of the five-party alliance met Monday morning in an attempt to bridge the rift emerging after the CPN-UML, a key ally, pulled out of the anti-‘regression’ agitations following the appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister.
The meeting however ended without conclusion.
While Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala and UML general secretary Madhav Nepal declined to speak to the press, leaders of other parties informed that the new political situation and the future of the ongoing agitation were discussed at the meeting.
Chairman of People’s Front Nepal Amik Sherchan told reporters that the leaders have agreed to go for a new agenda in the context of new political equation. “ We discussed the new political situation after Deuba’s appointment. The meeting has ended the lack of correspondence within the alliance since the May 31 meeting at the UML headquarters,” said Sherchan.
Nepal Workers and Peasants Party chairman Narayanman Bijukchhe informed that next meeting of the top leaders would set new strategies.
Nepal and Koirala had held separate talks before the meeting, it is learnt.
Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) vice-chairman Bharat Bimal Yadav was also present at the meeting. The meeting was held at Sherchan’s residence at Sanepa.
