Five Maoists killed in Rautahat clash; over 1500 villagers ‘abducted’ in Rukum

At least five Maoists were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Rangapur Kateni area of Rautahat district on Thursday.

The Maoists were killed during a search operation carried out by the Maoists in the area this afternoon, a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

Two pistols and logistics belonging to the rebels were recovered from the clash scene, it added.

Meanwhile, the Maoists have abducted over 1500 villagers from various villages of the mid-western district of Rukum.

According to the MoD, the insurgents marched the local residents of Jhula, Manma and Bafikot VDCs to an unknown location on Tuesday. The statement said the people depending on the earning of those who have been abducted by the rebels have been facing difficulties.

However, the Maoists are yet to confirm the abduction of the local people.
