Chief Election Commissioner Achyut Narayan Rajbhandari said Monday that the Election Commission was still undecided about the number of phases under which the elections were going to be held.

He said if the government guarantees the needed security for the elections then the elections could be held under a single phase also.

Speaking at a programme organized by the Reporters’ Club, Rajbhandari said the Election Commission is cautious to enforce the election code of conduct. He said the government and the political parties should sincerely abide by the code.

The means and resources needed to hold the elections were there and assurances of cooperation have been received from the foreign donor agencies also, Rajbhandari said.

He further said that the necessary task was being performed to implement the voters’ identity card system in the 105 constituencies where it has been introduced. nepalnews.com am July 16
