The Election Commission (EC) has invited all political organizations and parties to register their names with the EC within 30 days from Thursday for the municipal polls slated for February 9 next year.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday the EC said that the parties interested in taking part in the elections should register to the EC as per the clause 1 of the Article 113 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990.

Speaking at a program in the capital on Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Keshav Raj Rajbhandari informed that 1394 polling centers will be set up for the polls and there is a provision of tight security in every polling center.

According to him all the materials that were imported for the 2059 elections would be used for the municipal polls and that only ink used for the election purpose would be imported.

The CEC further informed that international observers were welcomed to observe the polls to be held in a free and fair manner.

Stating that the EC announced the dates of polls on its own, Rajbhandari reiterated that municipal and parliamentary elections will be held on time since law and order situation in the country had considerably improved.

The statement came at the same day the alliance of seven agitating political parties formally announced to boycott municipal polls announced by the government saying the poll is a ploy to legalize royal government.
