Dev Narayan rescues MPC; MMC, APF and Mahabir grab important victories

“Header King” Dev Narayan Chaudhary, a former international player, rescued MPC policemen scoring the match winning goal in late hours against Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) while Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) defeated Boys’ Union Club (BUC) 2-0, Mahabir Club shocked Sankata Club 2-1 and Gyanendra Armed Police Force (APF) outplayed Machhindra Club 3-0 in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Muguel ‘A’ Division League matches.

In the match played at Dashrath Stadium, JYC were down despite taking the lead and being in control of the match. Abdul Gani Olawale chipped in on Susan Bhandari’s cross in the 19th minute to give JYC the lead. MPC’s second half substitution Dev Narayan set up an equaliser in the 78th minute when Jumanu Rai leveled the scores on Chaudhary’s head pass. A minute later, MPC was awarded a penalty in a counter attack when Prabin Manandhar handled the ball inside the area and veteran Chaudhary converted the spot kick.

In the second game at Dashrath Stadium, Umesh Upreti gave MMC a lead in the 71st minute through a header on skipper Kumar Thapa’s corner kick. Then Nurudeen Olawale Salau doubled the lead four minutes later.

In the matches played at Halchowk Stadium, Mahabir Club shocked Sankata Club 2-1 and Gyanendra Armed Police Force (APF) outplayed Machhindra Club 3-0.
