A total of 413 RPP members, said to be the supporters of Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, have registered a plea at the party office to call a meeting of the Central Council to withdraw the Central Committee’s action against Kamal Thapa.
The plea filed by Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani has claimed that Kamal Thapa’s expulsion from the post of general secretary will have a negative impact over the future of the party.
“The action is not fair and needs to be scrutinised by the Central Council,” said the plea.
Meanwhile, RPP (Rastriya Prajatantra Party) spokesperson Roshan Karki, commenting on the plea, claimed that most of the signatures are not “reliable”.
“We have doubts whether the signatures in the plea are genuine,” she told journalists at the RPP office.
There are altogether 675 members of the Council, according to RPP sources. This will be the first ever incident in the 13-year-old history of RPP if a meeting of the Council is called.
According to the statute of RPP, a meeting of the party’s Central Council can be called, if one third of the party members give their consent for it.
The intra-party conflict in RPP took a new turn when RPP President Pashupati Shamsher Rana, with majority of the party’s central committee, sacked Kamal Thapa from the post of general secretary.
Thapa, in response, forcefully entered the party office, saying he is still intact in the respective post. Thapa is a sitting minister and spokesperson of the incumbent government.
